Character Information: Manga Summary

Before the start of the adventure, Link as a whole is a Hyrulean knight, one of those that protects Hyrule from the likes of bandits and thieves. His father is the captain of the knights, but more often Link pays his orders no mind and works alone (and apparently quite well).

After a being known as Shadow Link (a phantom-like doppelganger) kidnaps Princess Zelda, Link is transported to the Four Sword Sanctuary. As most stories go when one person becomes multiple people of themselves, when Link pulled the Four Sword from its pedestal, his personality was suddenly split amongst them. Released from the sword’s seal, Vaati emerged in a golem-like form made of stone. The “Links” were severely lacking in teamwork, but after remembering that they needed to save Zelda, they managed to defeat him. The stone golem shape was not his true form, so Vaati escaped to fight them another day.

During their dash to warn Hyrule Castle of the danger, it was pointed out that any of them retaining the name of Link was out the question. So based on their tunic color, they respectively were nicknamed "Green", "Blue", "Red", and "Vio" (short for the color violet) as suggested by the Link in red. Blue was initially against the idea and of not being considered the ‘real’ Link, but he got over it soon enough.

Eventually they made it to the castle, but it had already been raided by the dark forces and empty of living souls. The heroes were then attacked by what appeared to be the brainwashed knights of the castle. They weren’t, merely the armor of the knights puppeted by Shadow Link. He confronted them and revealed that the Four Sword was already cursed by Vaati and stripped of its power. Blue made a valiant attempt at trying to strike the first blow at the phantom “hero”, but was merely blasted away. Shadow Link would have successfully killed them if not for the Blue Maiden, who still held a little bit power even while sealed, sending a fairy to aid the heroes and drive him away with its light.

Though the sword was too weak to free this maiden from her crystalline prison, she was able to make clear what they needed to accomplish before they could complete their quest: In order to save Hyrule from the darkness of Vaati’s evil and rescue Princess Zelda, they must re-energize the Four Sword with “Force” (which can also materialize as gem shards from fallen monsters) to restore its power. Only then would they be a match against their shadow and Vaati, as long as they didn’t let the darkness of the land bring them to full strength.

Passing through a village in the east, the heroes saved Erune and the village’s 18 missing children from the Dark World, obtaining new weapons to defeat (Stone) Arrghus that would remain useful later. It was during this battle that Blue gained his trusty hammer.

Headed to Death Mountain next, they successfully worked together in building a boat. It wasn’t until after traveling along the river for a while that they noticed they were trying to travel upstream, instead naturally being pulled downstream towards a waterfall. Blue’s stubbornness hindered Green’s attempt to get them all to cooperate in getting back to the shore. The boat crashed against some rocks and dark winds separated the four to different parts of Hyrule…

Blue ended up in what is known in-game as “Frozen Hyrule”, due to the area being trapped by Vaati’s magic in an eternal winter. He freed an old woman buried in the snow and was directed to a cave that had cold winds blowly fiercely out from it, which was where she said that Vaati was hiding. Blue saw nothing amiss about this and charged in blindly. Then when he felt a hand upon his shoulder, he had enough just enough time to turn around before the old woman, in her true monstrous shape... froze him solid with a blast of icy breath.

Luckily for Blue, the fairy had previously found Red and had the ability to sense the locations of the heroes and warp to their general vicinity. With his new Fire Rod, Red easily defeated the ice monster, melted Blue from his chilly prison (as well as setting his butt on fire). Blue soon hammered Red for letting his blade of the Four Sword get lost (actually stolen by a monster or Shadow Link in disguise).

Setting off to find the other two, the fairy took them next to a temple, where they found Vio. What appeared to be Green’s blade of the Four Sword was laid on top of an empty stone coffin. The violet hero claims that Green was burned to death from a monster’s flame breath, hence there being no body. In a fit of grief and rage, Blue took the sword and hit it against the temple’s floor. Said “sword” crumbled, revealing it to be a fake made of stone.

Vio suddenly vanished as centipede-like creatures, Moldorms, showed up out of nowhere to attack Blue and Red. Blue managed to dispatch both monsters before the Big Poe appeared. It took delight in the fear they held of him and was ready to consume Blue’s soul. But then said hero quickly found the willpower to lift his new lantern and stun the ghost with its light.

Now knowing the monster’s weakness and noticing the unlit torches along the temple walls, Blue rushed to each with it. But the Big Poe thwarted his attempt by blowing them out and then sucking him up to (accidentally) swallow him whole. As it twisted and flexed supermodel-like to make “digestion” easier, Red was able to light all the torches with the Fire Rod. As soon as the Big Poe untwisted itself to scream in fear and outrage, there was enough room for Blue to unsheathe his blade of the Four Sword and slay it from within.

At this victory, all of the blades of the Four Sword resonated with pulses of energy. Despite the separation of the team, the four blades and their wielders were still drawn together.

Personality:

The purple-clad Link, whom the others and Blue know as Vio, is able to unflatteringly describe the blue-clad Link perfectly: Blue is the hot-headed and aggressive part of the whole Link’s personality. And he was also very obviously pissed at being given this description..

Though he initially rejected the idea of being called “Blue” and instead boldly proclaimed that he be considered the “real” Link, previously he also loudly added that there was no way wimpy little Red was a part of "him" and that his nickname idea was stupid. When their tunic colors were pointed out, he outright attacked Green with his sword demanding they switch tunics. Blue had also blew his top at Vio for being called a fool, grabbing him by the front of his tunic to yell in his face, and on separate occasions had smacked Red over the head with an oar and his hammer.

In addition to insisting how he wanted to be considered the main Link, Blue always leaps right into battle fearlessly (initially without a care for teamwork, but he learns that later). When he's not being loud, he's still direct with his words. When the four of them are surrounded by the “knights” of Hyrule in the castle, he’s quick to snap at Green about needing to fight them if he didn't want to be cut down himself, because the "knights" were their enemies at that point and nothing else. Later, after Shadow Link boasts that if they attack with the (weakened) Four Sword, he's “already won”, Blue takes him up on that and gets blasted. After the fight with Stone Arrghus, he starts one with the others (except for crafty Vio that sneaks away with a large amount) over a bunch of force energy crystals raining down on them, since he was the one that dealt the final blow to the monster.

Blue holds a lot of pride in his own abilities to the point of arrogance. During the fight against Vaati’s stone golem form, he initially scoffed at the idea of needing to work as a team, calling himself a one man army. When separated from the others due to an accident and not seeing them anywhere in sight, he’s quick to assume that the “shock of the cold water” snapped them all back into the whole Link, therefore making him the dominant personality. Blue also goes on and on to himself happily about being the "one and only" Link. And when he makes his way into the icy cave, he literally calls out for Vaati to show himself (who’s not actually in there, it’s a trap) because "the great Link” had arrived to vanquish him.

In the face of danger, Blue charges recklessly into battle against the stone golem Vaati and even against the possessed armor of Hyrulean knights, outright slicing an “arm” off one. He still gets scared, but he still doesn’t stop in the face of fear.

Sometimes Blue can get a bit impatient. Initially the Links don’t know of how to quickly restore the Four Sword’s power, but find in practice that every blade-to-blade strike while sparring generates a small unit of Force Energy. It’s a lot of effort for miniscule gain, so Blue was of course the first to express frustration. Vio helpfully informs them all from the book he’s reading about “Force Gems” and Blue is dumb enough to angrily ask if he can read his book faster.

When faced with high stakes, Blue can stay resolute no matter what happens. In the middle of their climb up the Tower of Winds, the Links came face to face with their father, brainwashed by a helmet of Vaati’s creation. When it’s clear that there was no choice but to defeat him in order to pass, Green declared that he’d then attack with a blast of Force energy. Blue however knocks him out of the way to do it himself, telling their leader that only he has the resolve to do whatever it takes to win a battle, fueled by the rage of seeing a loved one be used as a puppet.

And indeed he was just as frozen in fear as Red was in the face of the Great Poe within the Temple of Darkness. The foul spirit even had his soul pulled halfway out and was busy trying to decide whether to start devouring it from the front or the back. Beforehand it told them it had eaten Green and Vio’s as well. But Blue managed to see through the lie, because he believed in them being able to see past the sort of tricks that he couldn’t. So backed by that belief, he found his own courage to turn the light of the lantern against the Poe and free himself.

Blue is obviously very rough and physical whenever he gets annoyed and angry. But he also isn’t the touchy-feely sort, always recoiling whenever Red manages to hug him or pushing him away as he tries. He’s not prone to giving any sort of affection and not fond of receiving it. However, he still gained a soft spot for the others and comes off as what one would call a jerk older brother with a heart of gold.

Before they actually met the Great Poe in the temple, Blue bluntly voiced to the depressed Red that he wasn’t worried at all about Green and Vio. He doesn't outright say his reason, but based on how he found the courage to free himself from the Great Poe’s grip, it was because he wholeheartedly believed in their strength.

On Death Mountain, Vio appeared to have joined the dark side and dueled with Green, then apparently won and killed him. Red and Blue were deeply upset and even Blue had tears in his eyes over their leader’s “death”. It immediately turns out that Vio was on a self-enacted plan to spy on the enemy from within. When Vio’s cover is eventually blown, of course the other three come to rescue him, and Blue personally frees Vio from his bindings and helps him up onto his feet with a smirk.

It’s possible over time to become close enough with Blue. His rare gestures of affection are small, but they’re reserved for the people he cares about the most and on his own terms. At the end of their quest, it becomes time to return the Four Sword to its pedestal, to merge them and the blades into one once more. Blue comforts Red, ruffling his hair and telling him that he’s being an idiot to cry (because they're just joining back together into one person). He immediately holds back Red from hugging him as usual, but only because it was unasked for (also as usual).

Overall, despite all of his rather obvious flaws, Blue proves that he’s more than just the “angry” side of Link and that he’s still a gallant and courageous soul.
